Riders Sign Huskies kicker

The Riders announced Monday that they have signed Huskies kicker Sean Stenger. In a matching move, they released K Felix Menard-Briere who had been with them through all of training camp.

Stenger was a first-team All Canadian in 2016 and a Canada West All Star in 2017. He made 19 of 26 field goals for the Huskies in 2018, with the longest being 46 yards.

Menard-Briere missed his only kick attempt in the pre-season, a 37-yarder. He netted an average of 34.6 yards per punt, vs. Jon Ryan’s 38.0. Menard-Briere has been with five teams in his CFL career, not yet having played a regular season game.

Late in practice on Monday, Zach Collaros connected with K.D Cannon on a deep ball, but when practice was over, head coach Craig Dickenson said don’t expect to see that on a regular basis.

“That’s great, but this huckin’ and chuckin’ is not going to be our thing this year. We’re going to move the ball downfield and gain yards in a methodical way.” Dickenson stated. “If we have a shot, we’re going to take it. I don’t believe in stepping back and throwing bombs all day. We got one, but we were lucky.”

The Riders will hold one last practice in Saskatoon Tuesday before packing everything up and returning to Regina.

On Thursday night, they will meet the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in their last pre-season game of the year.  Kickoff at Mosaic Stadium is 7 o’clock with our pregame show on 620 CKRM starting at 4.
