Former Regina gymnastics coach accused of sexual assault by former gymnast

A former gymnastics coach in Regina is facing charges after incidents with a then-teenaged gymnast.

Regina Police say 68 year old Marcel Dubroy of Smithers BC has been charged with several offences including sexual assault on a person under 18 and invitation to sexual touching

In a release, Regina Police say they first became aware of the complaints after it was brought to their attention from the Ottawa Police Service.

The complainant is now 30 and says sexual offences were committed against her between 2002 and 2008 when both were living in Regina.

Dubroy used to be the head coach at QCK Gymnastics, but he was dismissed in 2014 for reasons unrelated to the charges he now faces.

Dubroy, who was the Gymnastics Saskatchewan competitive coach of the year in 2002, was  suspended by Gymnastics Canada last month for alleged code of ethics and conduct violations.

He is to make a court appearance July 17.
