Missing Alberta man presumed drowned at Smoothstone Lake

A missing Alberta man is presumed drowned in a northern Saskatchewan lake.

Green Lake RCMP say is received a report of a missing canoeist at Smoothstone Lake on June 8th.

Police say two friends went camping in the area and a 27 year old Calgary man left the site at about 3:00pm to go fishing on the canoe and did not return.

A local fisherman found the canoe submerged in the middle of the lake. Reports say he was not wearing a life jacket when he left camp and the wind increased a great deal while he was gone.

RCMP have checked the shorelines and local roads with the Under Water Recovery Team searching the area, but haven’t found anything so far.

Police say the search is continuing.
