Ralph Goodale reacts to Trans Mountain Pipeline federal approval

The Trans Mountain Pipeline was given the green light by the federal government on Tuesday, and public safety minister Ralph Goodale said this is good news for all of Canada.

After the project was struck down by the federal court of appeal in August, the federal government went back to the drawing board and attempted to accommodate for the rules and recommendations laid out by the courts and opposition sides.

Goodale said the project will create thousands of jobs.

“The very important consideration is that 75% of the pipe that will be needed for this massive project is pipe that has been or will be produced by Evraz,” Goodale said. “That means a very direct and very important economic spin-off for Saskatchewan and for Regina.”

Goodale said the federal government has followed the rules exactly to ensure this is done right.

“The end result is that people can be confident that this project will achieve economic objectives, environmental objectives, and indigenous objectives, all three together.”

Goodale adds that he is confident construction can begin sometime during this construction season.
