Severe thunderstorm watches in effect for southwest and west-central Saskatchewan

Several areas along the Alberta-Saskatchewan border including the city of Swift Current have been placed under a severe thunderstorm watch by Environment Canada.

The weather office says thunderstorms are expected to develop in western Saskatchewan Wednesday afternoon under a slow-moving low pressure system. Some of these storms may be severe with strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. The risk of severe thunderstorms should end late this evening.

This watch comes less than 24 hours after Swift Current was deluged with rain causing flooding

Rain is in the forecast for the Regina area with the precipitation expected to start late Wednesday evening.

At this time, Regina is not under a watch or warning.
