Regina-based FCC offers support to hard-pressed farmers

Farm Credit Canada is offering support to hard-pressed producers this growing season.

FCC vice president of operations for the prairies, Darren Howden, says farmers are facing serious weather and trade disruptions this summer.

He says too much rain is delaying seeding in Eastern Canada, while farmers in Western Canada have faced drought.

He says recent rain is welcome but some livestock producers may still face a feed shortage.

He says the lending agency is willing to be flexible on payment schedules on a case by case basis.

He says FCC will consider deferral of principal loan payments or other amendments to loan payment schedules to reduce financial pressure on farmers.

Howden stresses the importance of farmers maintaining open lines of communication with their lender.
