Livestock producers in Saskatchewan are expressing disappointment with a report that China is halting imports of Canadian meat.
A report in a Quebec newspaper says China is upset with veterinary certificates from Canada.
The news leaves the manager of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association feeling disappointed.
Chad MacPherson sees the action as political in nature.
“I believe this is more punitive action from China because of the situation with the Huawei executive.” MacPherson said. “We need to work with our federal government to get this issue resolved because it will have an impact on the bottom line of all cattle producers in Canada.”
MacPherson says Canada produces some of the safest food in the world with a rigorous health inspection system.
