Hail damage to Sask. crops described so far as mostly light to medium

Saskatchewan crop losses to hail so far this year are described as mainly light to medium.

Canadian Crop Hail Association president Rick Omelchenko says storms in early to mid-June dropped pea to loonie size hail on crops in several areas of the Saskatchewan grainbelt.

He described damage as mostly light to medium following recent rains.

He says in recent years hail storms have come earlier in the growing season.

Omelchenko says most of the hail claims have come from farmers around Weyburn, Midale, Ituna, Tisdale, Avonlea, Canora and Kamsack.
