Recent rainfall improves crop conditions around parts of Southern Saskatchewan

Farmers say Regina area crops are improving following recent rainfall.

APAS president Todd Lewis says his farm southeast of Regina received over an inch or about 30 millimeters during the past 5 days.

He says crops have been set-back by extremely dry weather this spring but the moisture will help.

Lewis says his durum will not be a bumper crop but every bit of rain helps.

He adds his canaryseed will not be a great crop, the moisture came too late.

He says the canaryseed is reaching the heading stage and is only 4 or 5 inches high.

Lewis adds there is uneven germination but cooler temperatures this week will help with crop growth.

He says rain will be needed on a weekly basis through the growing season for proper crop development.
