Brother vs brother at Mosaic Stadium Saturday night when Riders battle Stamps

In the long history of the CFL, there has never been a game featuring brother versus brother as head coaches.   That will change on Saturday night at Mosaic Stadium when new Riders Head Coach Craig Dickenson looks across the field and sees his brother Dave.

It is a rarity to have two brothers being head coaches.   In the NFL, former San Francisco 49er Jim Harbaugh had a chance to send his team into battle against a Baltimore Ravens team coached by his brother John in a Super Bowl which was won by John.

As the two get ready for the historic game, both are downplaying it even though they know there is some significance to it.

“It’s a neat thing and it’s neat for our families.” Craig Dickenson said. “It doesn’t say a lot about us. It says a lot about the people we have worked with and have helped us do this over the years.”

As for Dave, who is one year younger, he says the focus should be on the players representing the two teams and not on who is coaching them, but he adds this isn’t strange territory for either one of them.

“We’re one year apart.  We’ve always competed for similar jobs, girlfriends and those type of things,” the Stampeders coach said. “It’s who we are. We wish each other the best, but definitely both of us will go after the win.”

The win will be big for both even though the CFL season is still young.  Saskatchewan goes into the game with a record of 1-2 while Calgary is 1-1.
