Lighting upgrades coming to Regina’s Victoria Park

In an effort to address safety issues in Victoria Park, lighting is going to be upgraded.

It is something the executive director of Regina Downtown, Judith Veresuk, has been looking for since assuming the role almost a decade ago.

“It is nice to check off that box because it is something I have wanted to see get done.” Veresuk said. “We knew it would take time, but with the fact that we are seeing more and more people in the downtown core at night whether it be at a bar, a restaurant, shopping or attending a performance at the Globe Theatre, there are many who walk through the park to get to and from their vehicle so this should give them an increased perception of safety.  It should also deter those who commit crimes like vandalism in the park.”

A request for proposal has been made with the deadline for companies interested in doing the work being August 6.  It is hoped the work can be done by November 1.

Veresuk feels this is just another step in the revitalization of downtown Regina happening.
