There is a wide range of crop development across the Southern Saskatchewan grainbelt.
Brent Flaten is a crops extension specialist at the Agriculture Knowledge Centre in Moose Jaw.
He says crops have improved with recent rainfall but development has been delayed for many fields because of late germination.
He says there was a lot of patchy crops until the rains arrived in mid-June.
Flaten adds timely rains will be important for crop development this summer.
He says harvest will be a big challenge because of a mix of mature and immature crops in the same field.
He is hoping for a late frost because of the late germination of many crops in southern Saskatchewan.
