More than 1,000 crop damage hail claims have been made in Saskatchewan from storms around the July 1st long weekend.
The field operations manager with Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Insurance, Darryl Tiefenbach, said the worst storm was in the Rosetown-Elrose area of west central Saskatchewan.
“The Rosetown and Elrose area that had a high wind where trees were uprooted and so on is not highly unusual, but they obviously had a lot more win there that caused a lot more damage with the hail being blown on a sideways angle even if it’s smaller hail, so there’s probably going to be a lot of damage in that area,” Tiefenbach said.
Tiefenbach added hail storms affected over a dozen communities in the southwest, west central and southeast part of the grainbelt.
He also said the hail was up to golf ball in size and adjusters will be busy this week on the claims.
