Much of the activity in the town of Eston on Monday is centred on cleaning up after a powerful storm ripped through Sunday night.
Environment Canada can’t say yet if a plow-wind or tornado was responsible for the damage which hit the town, 60 kilometers southeast of Kindersley, around 8:00 PM.
Emergency measures co-ordinator Duane McKay says while a lot of the town suffered damage–especially the southwest part, they have not put a tally as to how many buildings and homes were damaged.
SaskPower’s Joel Cherry adds crews are out, but damage to lines was severe.
“We have a lot of lines and poles that are down and some lines will have to be rebuilt.” Cherry said. ” Our first priority overnight was to keep everyone safe and de-energize any downed lines and our plan this morning is to start a restore plan with crews on the way to start making repairs soon, but its not known when full service will be restored. At this point, much of the town is without power
One home was said to be destroyed and there are reports of the roof being partially lifted off the town’s rink.
