UPDATE – Environment Canada says the city of Regina saw 32 millimeters of rain in just under one hour Tuesday night, and 35 millimeters in total after a strong thunderstorm passed through the region.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued early Tuesday evening, and what was a warning became reality, as a heavy storm pummeled the city, with heavy rains leaving many streets flooded, including the Albert Street-Saskatchewan Drive underpass and the Broad Street underpass. Intense lightning was also reported to have hit numerous large trees in the city.

The heavy rain also forced the Walmart in east Regina to close its doors.

Meteorologist Mark Melsness says there was also a brief tornado touchdown in a field near White City.
“That’s right, a brief tornado touchdown was observed around White City, I think it was out in a field so no damage was caused from that that we’re aware of, but that was around the same time as the thunderstorm was going on in Regina,” Melsness said.

Regina wasn’t the only area to get hit with severe weather on Tuesday, Melsness said hail reports came in from Leader while they have unconfirmed reports of a tornado northwest of Swift Current.
