A group has been formed in Moose Jaw to promote the city’s downtown core.
The ‘Downtown Moose Jaw Association” is made up of people representing businesses in the downtown area along with the Chamber of Commerce and the city.
Their goal is to try and keep the public’s awareness of the area up and to stimulate, develop and aid the district.
“The key thing is to make things happen,” said spokesperson Yvette Moore. “We want to make [downtown] viable, we want to make it exciting, activity driven. We want to give people a reason to come downtown.
“Now that they are officially incorporated, Moore explained how the next step for the group is to get together to set some initial goals and speak with business owners, managers and others in the area.
She said something like this was needed seeing other Saskatchewan centres like Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert already have their own versions of a downtown association.
“It seems to be something that Moose Jaw is lacking. We’re just a little behind on getting going.”
Downtown Moose Jaw Association believes attracting people to the downtown, whether they are tourists or citizens, is something that needs to be done.
She feels like there are some in Moose Jaw that don’t realize how many good things there are in the downtown corridor.
But now that an association has been created, she hopes businesses can work together to help grow the local economy with this new project.
