The Ehrlo Sport Venture is running a sports camp this week for new Canadians to get involved.
Recreation worker with Ehrlo Sport Venture Leslie Charlton said there is an added importance to getting new Canadians active.
“It’s important just to say welcome to these wonderful new Canadians, and just to show them some fun recreation that they can take part in in Regina and to introduce them to some clubs and to some new people.”
Charlton said often times, new Canadians have trouble getting used to Canadian recreation activities.
“We like to be sort of a bridge so that it’s a little easier for the kids so that if they get sort of an idea of what a typical Canadian sport is like when they go back to school in the fall, they’re a little bit more acclimatized to Canadian culture.”
Charlton said after their soccer season was cancelled due to a lack of volunteers, her organization needs volunteer coaches and donations.
“It’s a really fun way to get involved,” Charlton said. “Even if you don’t have a lot of experience with a sport, it’s a fun way for our volunteers to learn, but anybody that knows about a sport in Regina, we’d love to have you volunteer.”
Tuesday, Baseball and Football camp was on, while Hockey, Rugby and Basketball are scheduled to be taught to the participants this week as well.
