In a matter of days, the Queen City Ex parade will be hitting the streets of Regina to officially show the beginning of Saskatchewan’s fair.
The parade will see a different route this year. It’ll start from the parking lot location where the old Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field used to stand, and will finish up at Dilawri on Broad Street.
Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) spokesperson Sabeen Ahmad said the reasoning behind the change this year was because parade organizers didn’t want streets closed off for too long.
“Considering the fact that it’s an evening parade, we are aware and respect the fact that we don’t want all intersections and roads closed off for long periods of time,” explained Ahmad. “We did decide to change the route up a bit and again shorten it.”
There are 60 participants that are in this year’s parade. It will be an engaging parade not only for those who are participating, but those who plan on attending, too.
People who catch the parade will have the opportunity to take part in a new Facebook contest.
“We’ll post the top three floats that seem to be the most eye-catching ones from the parade, and then the public gets to vote by ‘liking’ the float,” she said.
“Whichever float photo gets the most likes is considered to be the winner and they will receive a cheque presentation on the last day of the Queen City Ex.”
The cheque is totaled at $1,000 and will be presented to members of the winning team on Sunday, which gives the public a few days to make their votes count.
Since participants will be trying to win the money, that means attendees of this year’s opening ceremonies are in for one heck of a start to the Queen City Ex.
The parade is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night.
