SaskPower’s grid is getting tested as southern Saskatchewan is under an extreme heat warning, but the company says it is doubtful we will see a consumption record happen.
“It’s not likely we will set one on Friday.” SaskPower’s Jordan Jackle said. “We are keeping an eye on things though as there is a chance we could see one if this hot spell continues. The consumption record was set last August when we had a heatwave hit us where temperatures were sitting at around 35 degrees Celsius.. That record was over 3500 megawatts.”
Jackle goes on to say that as of mid-afternoon Friday, the consumption was at 3200 megawatts with peak consumption on Thursday sitting at 3437 megawatts.
