Regina driving range closing after 27 years

A golf tradition that’s lasted 27 years comes to an end on Sunday.

The Paisley Golf Oasis Practice Range closes after being in operation since 1992 after the land had been sold.

The driving range just off of Highway 1 west of Regina has been a staple for golfers in the area for many years.

While co-owner Bill Paisley said he can’t release any details on the the sale of the land, he can mention with almost certainty that it won’t remain a driving range.

“It’s certainly unfortunate for the golfing public because if you wanted to get a bucket of balls after supper, it seemed to be the only thing that was open past 7 o’clock,” said Paisley.

Paisley added how it is becoming more difficult for someone to start a driving range outside of Regina due to the cost of land. However he hopes someone else is able to step forward and meet the needs of golfers in the area.

“It’ll take little while to wind down the 27 years we’ve had with the range, and then we’ll try to get ourselves south for a little relaxation at the end of October.”

Despite the excitement of their travelling plans later this year and what they hope to do in 2020, Paisley said he is going to miss the people who would frequently visit the driving range.

And surely they will be greatly missed by the local golfing community, too.
