Regina offering artist in residence workshop program.

For the first time in two years, Regina is holding an artist in residence program.

This year, Jori Cachene is running the workshop which will see a tipi liner be created.

City spokesperson Emma Morris said the last artist in residence workshop was held in 2017 with Brendan Schick who helped with a street painting project in the Cathedral neighbourhood.

Now that it’s back after a two-year hiatus, Morris explained how the city hopes they can do this program every year.

“We hope to continue it into the future. It’s a key piece of our programming within the cultural development unit which closely aligns with our cultural plan as well,” she said.

For Cachene’s project, she will be making the tipi liner over the span of two workshops. Morris admitted it’s a great opportunity for the public to be a part of a memorable art piece.

The city will also have a celebration event once the project is finished.

“There’ll be an opportunity to view it and we hope to do a launch where it’s installed within the city’s 18-foot tipi at the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre.”

The two workshops go Saturday afternoon and again on September 14th. They are free to attend and will be hosted at the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre located on Elphinstone Street.
