Family Feud Canada auditions coming to Regina

Survey says families are needed for Family Feud Canada.

CBC is bringing the iconic game show up north and adding a Canadian twist to it.  On the show, families are asked to guess the most popular answers to a 100-person survey. “There will be some Canadian twists to it,” said Senior Producer Molly Middleton. “It’s not just going to be bacon and maple syrup questions I promise, and the set won’t be covered in moose tracks, but it will have a Canadian flavour,” she added.

Middleton said you do have to apply online first, and some families will then be chosen to take part in in-person interviews taking place on Friday in Regina.

“We’ve had everything from these little well produced videos people have put together to sort of a selfie mode, so people have to go online, apply with a brief description of what makes your family so awesome and submit a video as well,” said Middleton.

She said you need to really showcase your family in the applications with energy and personality being key.

“It’s a game show on national television so people have to be willing to put themselves out there and be willing to make fun of themselves and each other.”

Recruiters are looking for families of five to apply. Middleton said producers do recognize that the definition of family has evolved over the years. “You don’t have to be blood related at all. We’ve actually had work teams apply, best friends, roommates, whatever family means to you. So it has to be a team of five that you define in your application as what makes you guys awesome and so close,” Middleton said.

She added families in Regina need to get the online applications in as soon as possible. Recruiters will be in Regina on Friday to do in-person interviews, but you have to be invited to take part in those, which is based on the online applications.

Over 1,500 families from across the country have already sent in applications. Middleton said everyone is encouraged to apply because they want all communities in the country represented, not just the people in big cities.

Once the in-person interviews are complete, the families chosen for the show will be flown to Toronto for filming, with all travel costs and hotels covered by the show.

“It’s so fun,” said Middleton. “I don’t think people realize that it’s not just for fun, and there is actually $10,000 on the line every episode. You can win up to $30,000 which is crazy, it’s a 20 minute game which is so fun. You have no idea if you are going to win or lose, it’s not about the right answer, it’s not about having the most crazy education which is going to lead you to these intelligent answers, it’s survey questions, it’s the most popular answer, so it’s more fun than anything.”
