Public sector purchasers and Saskatchewan suppliers met on Thursday at the Queensbury Convention Centre for the 2019 Business Opportunity Expo.
The venue hosted hundreds of entrepreneurs, public sector organizations and government representatives for the one-day event, providing face-to-face interactions involving public procurement opportunities.
According to a release from the government, representatives from the government’s Single Procurement Service, Priority Saskatchewan, government ministries and Crown corporations, along with municipal, academic and health sectors officials were on hand.
Saskatchewan Minister of Finance Donna Harpauer was the keynote speaker to a crowd of a couple hundred during the lunch hour. She had the chance to offer her thoughts on the importance of public procurement opportunities.
“Local suppliers are supporting people in communities, families and our province as a whole. So the more we can build those relationships, the more we can have Saskatchewan businesses involved in public procurement,” said the minister.
The event offers participants an opportunity to network and learn more about ideas and innovations while taking part in sessions and meetings throughout the day.
Minister Harpauer expressed her excitement in regards to the energy from this year’s participants, mentioning how it was a larger turnout than they previously expected.
She hopes people are able to connect and build a better future for their businesses and the province.
“Sometimes there’s some great solutions to problems we have that we don’t even know exist, so bringing people together such as this is a way to find out more about their ideas.”
Public procurement opportunities are posted on the government’s tender page.
The next Business Opportunity Expo is set for 2021.
