Canada’s Polish history on display at Government House

Government House in Regina is the temporary home for a new exhibit featuring Canada’s Polish history.

The Museum of Emigration and Canadian Embassy in Poland teamed up to make Poles in the Canadian Mosaic: 150 Years of History, a commemoration which showcases what Poles have accomplished in Canada.

Dr. Wojciech Olszynski, the Honorary Consul of Poland in Saskatchewan said it’s an amazing exhibit that demonstrates what Polish immigrants created when Canada was growing as a nation, which included building roads, bridges and the first railways and houses on the prairies.

Visitors will have a chance to read about some of the country’s most famous Poles, too. “They came to Canada to work on farms and to help keep our culture. It’s authentic and they are pictures of real people,” explained Olszynski.

He encourages Reginans to take a look at what the exhibit has to offer. He admitted a piece such as this one typically only goes to bigger cities out east, so having it come to the province means a lot.

“A place like Government House is a very prestigious place – this was my dream actually to show the exhibit in that place.”

The exhibit will be in Regina until the end of September. Government House is free to the public and open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
