Pats lose pre-season finale in Prince Albert

The Regina Pats closed out their 2019 pre-season schedule with a 5-2 loss against the Raiders on Saturday night in Prince Albert.

Just like in their matchup on Friday in Regina, the Pats drew first blood. A tally from Makai Mitchell was scored over three minutes into the game to make it 1-0 for the visitors.

Prince Albert responded several minutes later from a Ilya Usau powerplay goal to make it 1-1 after the first.

In the second, the Raiders went ahead 2-1 when Ozzy Wiesblatt tipped in a shot from Cole Fonstad on another powerplay opportunity. However the Pats returned to even terms off a Robbie Holmes shorthanded goal in the dying seconds of the period.

It ended up being the last time the Pats would score in the game as the third period was all Prince Albert. Max Martin gave the Raiders the lead a couple minutes into the frame, while Cole Fonstad sealed the victory with two goals in the last minutes of the contest.

The Pats outshot the Raiders 34-27 despite falling short 5-2 on the scoreboard. Max Paddock made 22 saves on 26 shots in the loss. Regina ends the pre-season with a record of 2-3-0-2.

The regular season opener for the Pats is this Friday at 7:00 p.m. when the Moose Jaw Warriors are in town.
