Number 1’s at 1 – September 17

I’ve got another exciting edition of Number 1’s at 1 lined up and ready to play this afternoon!

On today’s show

  • Crystal Gayle started her fourth and final week at number 1 on this day in 1977 with her biggest crossover hit of her career, “Don’t it Make my Brown Eyes Blue.”
  • A very young country singer by the name of Reba McEntire made her Grand Ole Opry debut on this day in 1977 after she almost missed it! Legend has it that the security guard didn’t have her name on the performer’s list. Luckily she made it in anyway.
  • Charley Pride got his 29th and final number one hit 36 years ago today with “Night Games.”
  • Jake Owen climbed to the top of the charts on this day in 2011 with “Barefoot Blue Jean Night,” his 7th number 1 hit.
  • Tim Hicks had the two top selling Canadian singles this week in 2013
  • and we’ll celebrate the birthday of late, great Hank Williams Sr. He was born on this day in 1923 but left us far too soon in 1953 when he passed away from drugs and alcohol.
