Regina Police, other agencies targeting traffic violations through STEP Blitz

Reginans can expect a higher police presence throughout the next couple days in select locations in the city.

The Regina Police Service is taking part in what is called the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, or STEP Blitz, involving police from across Saskatchewan.

The goal for the blitz is to improve traffic safety in the province by partnering with RCMP, the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol, the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Police agencies, along with representatives from SGI and the Ministries of Justice and Finance.

Members are working together to identify traffic violations including impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, seatbelt use, commercial vehicle standards and unlicensed drivers.

The program is a two-day initiative that began Thursday and runs until Friday.
