Sask harvest reaches 23 percent

Saskatchewan farmers made modest harvest progress this past week.

Provincial crops analyst Cory Jacob says 23 percent of the crop is in the bin, up from 18 percent last week but well behind the average of 50 percent for this date.

He says some areas had up to 6 inches or 150 millmeters of rain this week, particularly around Bengough.

He expects average crop production.

Jacob says harvest ranges from 37 percent in the southwest to 10 percent in the northwest.

Some crops are showing bleaching and sprouting from recent rain and there was crop loss this week due to localized flooding and strong winds.

He says some crops are suscepible to frost, particularly some late maturing soybeans.

14 percent of the durum is expected to grade number 1, 46 percent number 2 and 28 percent number 3 durum.
