The CEO of the Regina and District Chamber of Commerce does not want to see the city’s property tax formula change any time soon.
John Hopkins said the current formula, which has been used since 2005, has allowed for a competitive tax rate on both residential and non-residential property.
Hopkins said it’s pretty straight forward, if it’s not broken it doesn’t need to be fixed.
“The community has been growing and there’s investment coming to our community, people are not leaving our city anymore like they once were, and it’s a beacon of opportunity for people all over the world who are coming to take advantage of the jobs and careers that are being created,” Hopkins said.
This comes after a motion from city council asking administration to identify impacts of revising the tax policies related to non-residential property to potentially relieving residential rate payers.
