Lewvan Drive construction now complete

The city of Regina is celebrating the end of the Lewvan Drive construction project Tuesday.

Over two kilometres of new pavement between 11th avenue and 1st avenue was completed in just under 16 weeks.

Director of roadways and transportation Chris Warren said the project took as long as expected.

“Our planning team did an excellent job in looking at what needed to be replaced and rebuilt in terms of our concrete infrastructure and pavement infrastructure,” Warren said. “Obviously over the summer, we’re always open to any kind of weather delays and things like that, I spoke about trying to accommodate the various major events in the city.”

While many major projects are still incomplete, Mayor Michael Fougere said the intent is to complete them before winter as opposed to waiting until next year.

“You can’t control the weather, but they’re talking about maybe snow on the weekend, and I can’t believe they’re saying it but that may happen, and that may have an impact,” Fougere said. “As we plan these projects going forward, we anticipate them having completion before the end of the year, (or at least) the segment they want to do, Victoria Avenue is a two year project, so we will complete as much as we can in the first phase this year.”

The Lewvan Drive project came at a cost of $2.9 Million.
