Pense and Grand Coulee Minor Hockey Association searching for stolen trailer and bottle drive donations

An unfortunate incident over the weekend has left the Pense and Grand Coulee Minor Hockey Association searching for help.

The organization ran a bottle drive, and the night before the recycling was to be turned in to SARCAN, the trailer was stolen with the recycling inside.

Board member Leah Bernard said those donations go a long way to supporting minor hockey in the area.

“There’s registration costs, there’s insurance and all that kind of stuff that we do,” Bernard said. “We do subsidize hockey fees with our rental and everything that we have to pay to our rink, we provide goalie equipment for the kids, so we’re always needing to replenish that and update everything and make sure everything fits accordingly for the kids.”

Bernard said the community is shocked at this event.

“The other heartbreaking part of it was we had a local business who had donated a trailer for us to use because it’s quite a bit of recycling being returned, and it was the trailer that was stolen,” Bernard said. “We’re obviously having to figure out insurance and all that kind of stuff, just from someone’s good deed, and someone went and ruined it.”

Bernard said there is already people stepping up to help the association with the missing funding.

“We’ve got an account set up,we have e-transfers, we have a few other hockey parents going to collect some other recycling that’s being donated from people that aren’t able to drive,” Bernard said. “That’s amazing as well, just from people who don’t even know us, or really aren’t even a part of our community, so any type of support definitely helps.”

There is also a GoFundMe page set up for Pense and Grand Coulee Minor Hockey to recover their losses.

The trailer is a dual axle dump trailer with the licence plate number 681 LNL. Anyone with information on its whereabouts is asked to contact the White Butte RCMP.
