Regina YMCA looking for donations after playground structure is destroyed

It isn’t what those who work at the YMCA Childcare Centre at Marion McVeety School wanted to see when they arrived to work Monday.

The playground structure at the south Regina school had been completely destroyed over the weekend leaving 30 or so kids without any equipment to play on.

The YMCA went to the public asking for help and Regina is coming through according to CEO Steve Compton.

While this is frustrating and senseless, Compton says once word got out as to what happened, a negative story started to turn into a positive one.

“Expenses are tough and there were some questions about whether or not we could replace the structure which comes at a cost of five thousand dollars.” Compton said.  “Sherwood Co-Op stepped up and committed $2500 which is half of the replacement cost and others have made inquiries as well about volunteering and getting a new structure back up for the kids so it’s a nice problem that came from an unfortunate circumstance.”
