Advances in crop production are being celebrated this week in Saskatchewan.

The province has proclaimed Biotech week this week to raise awareness of the importance of biotechnology.

Agriculture minister David Marit says new crops have been developed in Saskatchewan to improve yields and ensure production of safe, reliable food.

Marit says the province supports agricultural innovation through a variety of farm research programs, including almost 31 million dollars this fiscal year.

Saskatchewan is home to about one third of Canada’s agricultural biotech sector.
