Raiders rip five unanswered goals to beat Pats

The Raiders rallied with five straight goals on Friday night to hand the Regina Pats a 5-2 loss at the Brandt Centre.

Regina was up 2-0 after the first period thanks to a couple goals from forward Riley Krane. He now has three goals in the first three games of the season.

However in the second, the Raiders responded with goals by Cole Nagy and Evan Herman that were 26 seconds apart, making the score 2-2 after two.

In the third, Brayden Watts, Aliaksei Protas and Ozzy Weisblatt were on fire for the visitors. The trio combined to score three times for Prince Albert, the last marker an empty netter, and the Raiders took the two points in a 5-2 final.

Reflecting on the loss in a post-game interview with play-by-play commentator Phil Andrews, Krane felt he and his teammates were a little too comfortable after going up in the first period.

“We came out to start that second period pretty slow, and they took advantage of it,” said Krane. “We gotta forget about this one, maybe take the first ten minutes, throw it behind us and get ready for Sunday.”

Prince Albert led in the shots category 29-25 at the final horn. Danton Belluk collected 24 saves in his Pats debut coming in for Max Paddock who was out after a minor procedure earlier in the week.

Now at 1-2-0-0 to begin the season, the Pats look to rebound in a late afternoon matchup on Sunday when they host the Winnipeg ICE at the Brandt Centre in Regina.
