Rams playoff chances take serious hit after loss to UBC

The UBC Thunderbirds held on to record their first win of the season while handing the University of Regina Rams their 5th straight loss Friday at Mosaic Stadium thanks to some last-second heroics.

Quarterback Bryden O’Flaherty engineered a potential game-winning drive that fell just short when he was intercepted in the endzone in the final minute to secure a T-Birds 33-28 win.

O’Flaherty, who started the year as the team’s 3rd string quarterback and was pressed into action as the starter thanks to injuries to Josh Donnelly and Seb Britton, tried to lead the Rams back from a 23-6 halftime deficit but was unable to.

The Rams are two wins out of a playoff spot with just two games to go, so obviously they would need to win both of their remaining contests – at Alberta on November 19 and at home to Manitoba at Leibel Field November 25 – to have any chance at squeaking into the postseason. In addition to those two results, the Rams would also need a road win from league-leading Calgary over the Bisons in Week 7.
