Singh Brings Campaign to Saskatoon

University students who came out for the Federal NDP Leader’s campaign stop in Saskatoon say the NDP’s platform is for the people.

Among the NDP’s promises are to extend full public dental coverage and to change the way Canada does procurement.

Singh also outlined reasons why he believes the procurement process in Canada needs to change saying the current process allows public dollars to go to companies outside of Canada.

The NDP leader claims that process has hurt a variety of sectors including steel and manufacturing. He adds the current government lost a billion dollar investment by not choosing Canadian trains when the country has companies that produce trains including Bombardier.

The NDP Leader says Singh says he’s putting forward that a Canadian procurement process should require made in Canada content when using public dollars.

And Singh said the People’s Party of Canada’s tactics are the exact opposite of what politicians should be doing.

This in response to a cartoon tweeted by the Saskatoon Grasswood’s PPC candidate depicting Singh in a turban with a bomb on top of it.

Singh said when you have images that try and inflame hatred or strike fear, what it does is create a less safe society for a lot of people.

The NDP leader says that’s the problem with the PPC in general.

“They’re trying to build on fear, build on division, try to have people pit against each other.”

Federal NDP Leader, Jagmeet Singh stands by his decision to block Regina MP Erin Weir from running for the party.

Some New Democrats in the province have voiced their concern that the decision may hurt them in the election.

Singh kept his answer short when asked if his handling of the situation and blocking Weir from running again has damaged his reputation in the birthplace of the New Democratic Party.

“I made a decision, I stand by it, I’m ready for the next question.”

Jagmeet Singh’ s decision not to let Weir run prompted almost 70 longtime party members in Saskatchewan to sign a letter accusing Singh of denying Weir due process and unfairly maligning Weir’ s character.

Erin Weir was suspended from caucus and blocked from running as a candidate following harassment allegations.

This is the third federal leader to visit Saskatoon since the election campaigning got underway. Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer was in Saskatoon last Saturday with the Saskatoon Farmer’s Market as a back drop and Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau landed in Saskatoon on the heels of his brown face scandal on September 19th.
