Conservatives plan to balance federal budget in five years with massive cuts

The Conservatives are promising they would balance the federal budget within five years by delaying billions of dollars worth of federal infrastructure spending.

Leader Andrew Scheer made the election pledge in Tsawwassen, B.C on Friday, and said he would levy a tax on tech giants, force tobacco companies to pay for anti-smoking campaigns and cut billions of dollars in spending.

The Conservatives say they’d cut consultant costs, scale back travel and hospitality and sell federal real estate, among other measures.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is criticizing the Conservative platform, saying it contains 53-billion-dollars in cuts.
