Preparations begin at Mosaic Stadium as NHL Heritage Classic approaches

The home of the Riders is transforming into a hockey rink.

On October 26, the Winnipeg Jets and Calgary Flames will meet at Mosaic Stadium in a game that is starting to generate a lot of excitement around the Queen City.

Evraz Place CEO Tim Reid said changing the stadium from a football field to a hockey rink has already begun.

“We’ve already started to lay [materials] over the field, and starting this weekend, NHL guests are starting to roll in,” he explained.

Whether it be the NHL game or the WHL game the next day between the Regina Pats and Calgary Hitmen, Reid thinks it will be a weekend for hockey fans to check everything out.

He mentioned how there will be a number of different ways for the public to participate, especially with more affordable ticket options for the WHL game.

Overall, he wants people to be excited since it’s be an event that will be history in the making. “It’s pretty exciting to know we’re two weeks away, and more importantly, people are wanting to talk about it.”

With the game between the Flames and Jets being shown across the world through a variety of channels, Reid added that it is once again an excellent opportunity to showcase Mosaic Stadium, Evraz Place and the city of Regina.
