“The perfect compliment to the Heritage Classic”, Hockey Week will lead up to the big game in Regina next week

Hockey Week will be taking over downtown Regina on Monday, leading up to the Heritage Classic on the 26th.

The week’s focus is about bringing those together to celebrate the game Canada loves.

Judith Veresuk, the Executive Director of the Regina Downtown Improvement District said if partaking in the sport is not your thing movies will also be shown throughout the week.

“Absolutely we have a hockey film festival that kicks off on Monday as well, we’re showing Score a Hockey musical, Slap Shot, Goon and The Mighty Ducks throughout the week,” Veresuk said.

Veresuk adds the week, while leading up to the Heritage Classic, is also a chance to once again showcase Regina’s downtown to the many visitors expected to be in the city.

“We want to make sure that downtown is ready for both our locals and the visitors too,” she said. “We’re hoping to provide that festive atmosphere, all of our businesses are excited about Hockey Week, there’s lots of fans here and of course many are Flames and Jets fans,” Veresuk said.

Those travelling around downtown are being reminded that in addition to the closure of 12th Avenue between Scarth and Lorne Streets, there will be increased noise and foot traffic during the week long celebration.
