Premier Scott Moe is putting out a call to Justin Trudeau less than 24 hours after he won the federal election with a minority government.

Moe spoke at the Legislature this morning and said he’s heard Trudeau say to the people of Saskatchewan and Alberta that he has heard their frustration and he wants to be there to support the western provinces. “He can support them by supporting a new deal. A new deal that includes the cancelling the carbon tax, a deal that would restructure the equalization formula so that it is fair to all provinces including Saskatchewan and Alberta and a new deal that would allow us to get our products to market.”
Moe said the results of last night’s election speaks to the division of the policies over the course of the last four years, adding that we saw an increase in seats of a separatist party in Quebec and no representation in Saskatchewan and Alberta. “We are at a crossroads in this nation if you will, and that crossroads is due to the policy direction the Prime Minister has put forward over the last four years and we are asking him to change that course to respect a new deal with Saskatchewan and the provinces. A deal that would do away with the carbon tax.”
He said Saskatchewan needs to be able to reach climate change goals in a different way, like we have always stated would happen.
Moe adds he is ready to sit down with the Prime Minister at any time to discuss how he will move forward on the issues.
“There is frustration here in the prairie provinces, there is a fire burning here in the prairie provinces,” Moe said. “What I am doing with handing the Prime Minister this letter, this opportunity, is handing him a fire extinguisher and asking him not to show up with a gas cap.”
