Low beam headlights seem much brighter nowadays

Do you find headlights are a lot brighter than they ever used to be?

Admittedly I don’t drive a great deal at night and if I do it’s typically around the city where street lights are present. I was driving home from Alberta the other night, cruising down the Trans Canada Highway, and to me it seems like vehicle headlights are much brighter than they ever used to be. It’s actually quite painful and annoying at times.

There are those, of course, who either forget to dim their lights or just don’t feel the need to dim them as one passes by. Then there are the courteous drives who do dim, and sometimes, it seems like the low beams are just a bright as the high beams. I suppose it has got something to do with with new light technology and LED’s in vehicles that are designed to help drivers, but it can really do a number on the eyes of the opposing driver.

Thanks to these headlights I’ve gotten to the point where I have to look down at the solid white line when cars zoom by because some of those headlights are just so piercing. It’s like a nail being driven into one’s skull between the eyes. I can’t speak for everybody here, but I’m not exactly a fan of nails being driven into my head! If you’re travelling anywhere this weekend at night, drive carefully, and don’t forget to dim your headlights!
