Regina Police say human remains were discovered on Saturday northeast of the city, the identity of those remains has not been confirmed yet, however police say the family of Wapemoose has been advised of this development.

The two accused were arrested on Thursday and Friday.

Twenty-three-year-old Eric Lee Alvin Kakakaway has been charged with second degree murder and offering an indignity to a human body.

Thirty-year-old Jeannette Mavis Kakakaway has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder, she was arrested on outstanding unrelated warrants for breach of probation.

“This investigation has been going on since the moment Jenaya was reported missing,” said Chief Evan Bray. “Over the past month we’ve made some very significant positive steps in the investigation and ultimately we saw the positive results of that investigative work resulting in two charges being laid and the location of a person we believe to be Jenaya.”

When asked at a media conference if he could elaborate on what came first, the charges or the discovery of the body, Bray said he couldn’t get into those specifics. “Our investigators were at a point where they were going to be able to lay the charges without locating a person.”

He adds that it’s believed the accused are related and that they knew of Wapemoose before she went missing.

RPS says the family has been notified of the progress in this case and has been connected with Victim Services.

Both suspects appeared in court Monday morning and were remanded into custody. An autopsy to identify the remains found is scheduled for this week.
