Look Out! Toque hair season is here

With the arrival of winter we also see new and funky hair styles all thanks to our toques. When I arrived to work this morning I took off my toque and my hair was all over the place. Some of it was bent upwards, part of it was flattened, and the rest was so electrically charged I could power the CKRM transmitter for at least two hours!

It’s all part of being Canadian. We all get toque hair and we all deal with it in our own way. Heck, some people probably find it sexy! Well, maybe that’s pushing it just a little bit. Either way I think it’s safe to say, pending some incredible weather phenomenon, that the snow is here to stay. Overall that pleases me, however as a former farm kid it’s tough when there are still acres of crop to combine. I’m all for winter, snow, and toque hair once the crop has been picked up.

Having said that I couldn’t imagine living in a place where you only get two seasons, heat and rain. I, like many of you, love and embrace the four distinctive seasons in Canada. We like to grumble about the cold to one another and complain about the wind, but when we travel to another country what do we do? We brag about how cold it gets with pride! This year, however, it seems like we just had three seasons, spring, summer, and then instantly winter.

We have a lot of snowbirds in Saskatchewan who like to travel south to Arizona, Texas, or Florida but I don’t ever picture myself being one of those individuals. It’s nice to escape the cold for a week or so in January or February but I look forward to getting home. After all, it’s a lot easier to put more clothes on than take clothes off, which, inevitably, can get awkward VERY quickly, unless you’re sporting toque hair, then you’ll look very attractive!
