Rookie quarterback Isaac Harker is set to take the field Saturday afternoon when the Saskatchewan Roughriders host the Edmonton Eskimos in the last game of the regular season for both sides.
There were question marks heading into the game on whether starting QB Cody Fajardo would be able to play after sustaining an oblique injury.
However at the start of 620 CKRM’s pre-game show from Mosaic Stadium, Michael Ball stated that Fajardo will not see the field.
“Cody’s not playing today. That oblique problem is going to force him to watch from the sidelines, so it’s going to be in Isaac we trust,” said Ball retelling his conversation with head coach Craig Dickenson.
Fajardo picked up the injury during the team’s practice on Wednesday.
As for Harker, the 23-year-old quarterback out of Colorado Mines and Indiana State will try to lead the Riders to first place in the West Division for the first time since 2009.
In three appearances this season, Harker has completed 21 of 33 passes for 254 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions.
A win today for Saskatchewan will clinch first in the division. A loss would mean the Calgary Stampeders could take the top spot if they beat the BC Lions in the late game.
Listen to the 620 CKRM pre-game show with Derek Taylor and Luc Mullinder. Kickoff between the Eskimos and Riders is at 2:00 p.m. CST.
