Man faces multiple evade, dangerous drive and firearm offences after early morning pursuit

A 23-year-old man is facing 13 charges, including firearm and weapons charges, after a Wednesday morning incident.

The Regina Police Service says at about 1:52am officers spotted a green Jeep Wrangler that matched the description of a vehicle that evaded police the night before.

After confirming it was the same car, police attempted to stop the Jeep, but it evaded again, disobeying a red light and drove away.

RPS says officers went to the registered owner’s address, but the Jeep wasn’t there.

Police say at about 2:53am the Jeep was found abandoned near the weight scales on Highway 11. The vehicle was in the middle of the roadway, facing south in the northbound lanes.

The Canine Unit found the suspect in a railcar directly east of the vehicle. Officers also found a bag that was thrown from the Jeep containing a loaded, sawed-off rifle, knife and expandable baton.

Twenty-three-year-old Anthony Rus faces 13 charges including flight from peace officer, operation of a conveyance dangerous to the public and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Rus made his first court appearance on Wednesday afternoon.
