Moe leaves meeting with Trudeau saying “expect more of the same”

Premier Scott Moe is expressing disappointment after sitting down in Ottawa with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday morning.

Moe had gone to Ottawa to hear what Trudeau was going to do to appease the frustration being felt in Saskatchewan over the election result and to pitch his “New Plan for Canada” which includes readjusting the equalization formula, putting a one-year hold on the carbon tax and expanding market access for Saskatchewan’s exports.  He says he came away feeling as if nothing has changed when it comes to Trudeau’s thoughts.

“I came with real opportunities for us to engage on behalf of the people that I represent in that province, opportunities that I was hoping to work with the prime minister and the new federal administration, the minority government that we have in our nation here today,” Moe said. “I did not hear a willingness to work on those priorities.”

When asked by reporters if he has to change his approach and tone with Trudeau, Moe responded by saying he won’t be and the province will continue its challenge of the federal carbon tax before the Supreme Court of Canada.

It is expected that case will be heard this March.
