The Queen City will be featured in a new mixed martial arts film called Cagefighter.
The Brandt Centre, Mosaic Stadium and other Regina locations will be shown in the film set for theatres next fall.
The cast and crew, featuring UFC legend Chuck Liddell, former WWE champion Jay Reso (also known by his stage name of Christian) and UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold have been filming in the city over the last couple weeks.
Producer Sara Shaak talked about the huge production value that exists in Regina, allowing them to film at various locations.
“At Mosaic Stadium, the Brandt Centre, some private residences, hotels – we filmed a little bit at Harvard Broadcasting for a day. Everyone came to the table and let us set up there,” she said.
“One of the things that’s different when you are in a place like Vancouver, where there is so much production, it gets more cost prohibitive than it would here.”
With changes in the tax incentive, the area hasn’t been able to attract as much film production. Shaak mentioned how they are a growing company that is interested in coming back to do more in the future because of how smoothly filming ran while in the provincial capital.
After taking a gamble on Saskatchewan, Shaak said everyone has been very accommodating during their visit.
“Our crew and cast are having a ton of fun and I think we plan on coming back here for a big premiere,” she shared. “That will be a big goal of ours, to do something fun here when we are ready to release.”
More than 50 Saskatchewan residents are employed on the production.
