NDP raises concern about violence in Sask schools

The NDP is raising concern about growing violence in Saskatchewan classrooms.

Opposition critic Carla Beck says nearly half of elementary students say they have been physically assaulted at least once in school and urgent action is needed.

She adds 40 percent of education support workers have experienced some violence in school and demanded action.

Education minister Gordon Wyant says the province takes the issue very seriously and recommendations from a new report are being studied and steps are being taken to resolve the problem.

Wyant says the province has its largest education budget ever and safety in school is a priority.
