Saskatchewan will be well represented at the Canada Cup of Curling in Leduc, Alberta as play gets underway Wednesday.
Robyn Silvernagle’s North Battleford rink begins their round robin against Rachel Homan Wednesday morning at 10:00, as her rink aims to compete for a direct birth into the Olympic trials coming up in 2021 in Saskatoon.
Silvernagle said while her third Stefanie Lawton has won three Canada Cups as a skip, this will be the rest of the teams first time competing at the event.
“I think we’ll probably lean on her a little bit for support and to kind of show us what to do and help us out,” Silvernagle said. “Being at the Scotties, I think that helped a lot, and we’ll kind of look at it similar to that.”
She said the team has a good game plan heading into the event.
“I think if we just stick to our game plan (we’ll do fine),” Silvernagle said. “We all can make shots, everybody out there makes shots, it’s just a matter of who makes the right shots at the right time and capitalizes when they need to.
“It’ll just be some really good curling this week.”
Silvernagle said it’s been a slow start to the season for the team.
“We’re just kind of figuring out our stride and getting going again, it’s been a tougher year in the fact that we’ve had tougher competition throughout the whole season,” Silvernagle said. “We’re still playing well, we’re just hoping that we start peaking here at the right time.”
On the men’s side of the draw, Matt Dunstone’s rink from the Highland Curling Club in Regina begins their round robin action Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 against Brad Gushue.
