Three people face combined 38 charges after attempted traffic stop

Two women and one man are facing a combined 38 charges for an incident that started as a traffic stop over the weekend.

The Regina Police Service says at about 9:08pm on Saturday, officers tried to stop a vehicle by turning on the emergency equipment but it drove away.

Unmarked police vehicles followed the car to the Eastview area where it stopped in an alley and the suspects fled on foot.

Police stopped two women and a man walking in the area a short time later, the group provided their names and carried on.

RPS says officers learned the registered owner of the vehicle was one of the women in the group, but she had given them a false name.

The suspects were found, detained and further investigation revealed that the driver had pulled a black duffle bag from the trunk of the car in the alley.

Officers found a loaded rifle in it.

Twenty-nine-year-old Dustin Morin, 28-year-old Kiri Haider of Regina and 19-year-old Desiree Morin-Jim of North Battleford are jointly charged with eight offences including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose to public peace, carrying a concealed weapon and flight from peace officer.

RPS says Dustin Morin faces an additional six charges of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition.

Haider is faces additional charges of obstruct peace officer and identity fraud.

Police add that Morin-Jim faces six additional charges including two counts of identity fraud, two counts of breach of undertaking and obstruct peace officer.

All three made their first court appearances on Monday.
